| 학교소개 및 특징 | 털사대학교(University of Tulsa)는 오클라호마주에서 역사가 가장 오래된 사립대학교 입니다. 1882년 오클라호마주 머스코지에 설립된 아메리카인디언 소녀들을 위한 장로교 학교가 그 기원이며, 1894년 헨리 켄달대학으로 대학 인가를 받았습니다. 1907년 털사로 캠퍼스를 이전하고 교명을 털사대학교(University of Tulsa)로 변경하였습니다. 현재도 장로교 교단과 계약을 통하여 깊은 관련을 맺고 있으며, 박사학위를 수여하는 장로교 계통의 고등교육기관으로서는 규모가 가장 큰 대학입니다. 미국 시사주간지 가 매긴 2012년 미국 대학 순위에서 털사 대학교는 미국 75위에 오르며 9년 연속 미국 톱100 대학에 올랐습니다. 오클라호마 지역에서 미국 톱100 대학에 오른 학교는 털사 대학교가 유일합니다. 또 2012년 기록한 75위라는 순위는 대학 역사상 가장 높은 순위이기도 했습니다. 털사 대학교는 핸리 켄달 문리과학대학(Henry Kendall College of Arts & Sciences), 콜린스 경영대학(Collins College of Business), 공학·자연과학대학, 법과대학 등 4개 단과대학으로 구성되어 있습니다. 대학원 및 지속교육 디비전(Division of Continuing Education)도 함께 운영합니다. 2개 도서관에는 202만 3298권의 도서와 159만 2700점의 마이크로폼 자료 및 CD를 포함한 9,385점의 시청각자료를 소장하고 있으며, 3,421종의 정기간행물을 비치하고 있습니다. 대학 부설시설로는 미술관, 라디오와 텔레비전 방송국 등이 있습니다. 캠퍼스가 위치한 털사는 아칸소강 연안에 있는 유전지대에 위치합니다. 1880년경 인디언 피난민의 마을로 건설되었으나 1901년 부근에서 큰 유전이 개발되어 일약 세계 굴지의 석유도시로 발전하였고, 현재 세계의 석유회사 영업소가 집중되어 있고 미국 석유지질학회 본부가 있습니다. 대규모의 정유공장을 비롯, 항공·우주산업 등 각종 공업이 번성하였고, 또한 주변에 비옥한 농업지역도 있어 목화·밀·축산물의 집산과 가공업이 활발합니다. 시내에 털사대학·털사 교향관현악단·미술센터 등이 있으며 교내에는 미술, 밴드, 치어리딩, 체스, 합창, 성가합창, 컴퓨터, 영화, 토론, 댄스, 소수민족문제, 동성애, 국제문제, 음악극, 오페라, 오케스트라, 사진, 사회, 공공봉사, 직업, 정치, 종교, 학생자치 등 70개의 동아리가 있습니다. 주요한 교내 행사로는 봄 축제, 히스패닉 민속 쇼, 에어밴드 등이 있습니다. 털사의 시가지구에 위치하고 있는 약 304.5㎢의 캠퍼스에는 기숙사를 포함하여 75개 동의 건물이 있습니다. * 랭킹 * 2012 미국대학랭킹 73위 (U.S. News & World Report 선정) 2011 미국대학랭킹 110위 (Forbes 선정)" |
