학교소개

학교소개 및 특징	1855년 미국 최초의 농과대학으로 설립된 미시간 주립농과대학에서 출발했다. 1857년 다목적관, 기숙사, 헛간을 갖추고 5명의 교수와 63명의 남학생으로 수업을 시작했습니다. 1862년 제정된 모릴법에 따라 학교부지 불하 대학이 되었고, 이후 미국 전역에서는 많은 대학들이 이 대학을 본떠 학교부지 불하 대학으로 개편되었 습니다. 1870년 여학생의 입학이 허가되었으며 20세기 전반기 교과과정을 확대하고 여러 건물을 신축하면서 발전했 습니다. 몇 차례 이름을 바꾼 뒤 1964년 현재의 이름으로 대학명을 변경했습니다. 북미지역에서 연구를 선도하는 62개 대학으로 구성된 미국대학협회(AAU)에 속해 있고 부속기관 및 시설로 도서관, 미술관, 자연사박물관, 극장, 천문대, 식물원, 실습농장, 화력발전소, 체육관 등이 있습니다. 그리고 부설연구소로 아시아연구소, 경제분석연구소, 교육정책연구소, 바이오에너지연구소, 생체모방나노구조물연구소, 국제경영연구소, 시스템통합·지속가능성연구소 등이 있습니다. 학생수만으로 볼 때 미국대 5대 대학안에 들 정도의 대규모 대학으로 주립대 중 가장 큰 규모의 기숙사 시설을 가지고 있으며, 캠퍼스 크기가 5천 에이커에 이를정도로 매우 방대한 캠퍼스를 가지고 있고 이 중 3천 에이커는 학교 식물원으로 캠퍼스가 마치 공원과 같은 느낌이라고 할 수 있습니다. 이곳에는 강의동과 기숙사, 각종 체육시설을 포함해 556동의 건물이 있습니다. 1855년도에 설립된 주립대학으로 디트로이트에서 가까운 곳에 위치하고 있으며, 한국에도 이미 널리 알려져 있어 많은 유학생들이 이 대학을 공부하고 있습니다. 상대적으로 많은 수의 한국유학생을 보유하고 있는 대학으로 대학내의 한국 학생회 홈페이지를 보면 매우 활동적이라는 것을 알 수 있습니다.
