센테니얼 컬리지, Noxware와 함께 수면 장애 관찰용 센서 개발

토론토 기반의 의료기기 제조업체인 Noxware와 센테니얼 컬리지의 공동 연구를 통해 불면증 치료에 한 걸음 더 나아가게 되었습니다.

Noxware가 보유하고 있던 압력 센서 기술과 센테니얼 컬리지 학생들의 다양한 IT, 전자 기기 관련 연구가 합쳐져 침대 시트 모양의 압력 센서를 개발에 성공했습니다. 이를 통해 수면 장애 분석, 데이터를 통한 원격 진료 시스템 구축을 가능하게 했습니다. 일반적인 불면증부터 압박 궤양(욕창) 환자의 수면 상태에서의 상처 악화 방지까지 다양한 분야에서 획기적인 연구가 될 예정입니다.

센테니얼 컬리지는 올해부터 캐나다 국립 과학기술 연구위원회(NSERC)로부터 STEM 분야의 다양한 기술 개발과 산학 협력을 위한 연구 자금을 투자받고 있습니다.

센테니얼 컬리지nbsp;캐나다 국립 과학기술 연구위원회로부터 4백만 달러 공동 투자 유치

지난 4월부터 센테니얼 컬리지는 협력 교육 기관들과 함께 캐나다 국립 과학기술 연구위원회(NSERC)로부터 다년간 4백만 달러의 연구 자금을 투자받게 되었습니다.

해당 투자를 통해 센테니얼 컬리지는 글로벌 전자 섬유 시장을 위한 제품을 개발하고 물류nbsp;식품nbsp;에너지nbsp;첨단 제조업 분야의 중소기업과 협력하게 됩니다.

전자섬유는?

전자 섬유는 생체 인식 센서nbsp;소형 컴퓨터 및 전자 장치와 같은 디지털 구성 요소를 직물에 통합하여 데이터 수집nbsp;에너지 전송 및 통신에 새로운 기능을 제공합니다. 전자 섬유는 건강 데이터를 모니터링하고 원격 통신이 가능하며nbsp;가상 진료를 수행할 수 있습니다. 이는 노인 및 만성 질환 또는 장애를 가지고 사는 사람들에게 매우 유용할 것입니다.

또한nbsp;센테니얼 컬리지와 협력 교육/연구 기관(셰리던 컬리지nbsp;험버 컬리지, University health network)는 남부 온타리오 제조업 혁신 위원회(SONAMI)의 일원으로nbsp;온타리오 주 남부의 중소형 기업들과 함께 기술 혁신/연구에 대한 다양한 솔루션을 제공하게 될 예정입니다.

캐나다 산업계의 인력난

l  캐나다 기업 개발 은행(BDC)은 지난 1월 캐나다에 소재한 절반 이상의 기업체(64퍼센트)가 노동력 부족을 겪고 있다고 발표했습니다.

l  세계적인 컨설팅 업체 딜로이트는 캐나다의 전체 기업 중 30.3퍼센트가 공식적인 인력난을 겪고 있다고 발표했습니다.

l  캐나다 정부와 기업 모두 노동 인력이 필요한 상황입니다.

l  캐나다 이민청 역시 캐나다의 이런 상황을 반영, 올해에만 43만명의 이민자를 확보하는 것을 목표로 하고 있습니다.

인력난을 겪고 있는 산업군

l  외식 산업: 코로나로 인한 운영 시간 제한, 인원 제한 등 다양한 규제는 매출 하락과 임금 감소로 이어집니다. 대부분의 외식 업체는 임금 보전에 실패하며 의료계열에 이어 두 번째로 높은 인력난을 겪고 있습니다.

l  건설업: 의료, 외식업만큼은 아니지만 캐나다 건설 업계에서도 인력난은 커다란 문제입니다. 캐나다 통계청에서는 석공, 도배기술자, 전기 기술자가 가장 높은 인력난을 기록하고 있다고 합니다.

l  운수 산업: 작년 하반기, 물류 트럭 운전사를 필두로 차량 물류 종사자 전반적인 인원 감소가 보고되었습니다. 캐나다 왕립은행(RBC)역시 해당 분야의 인력난에 대해 경고했습니다.

l  인공지능- 거의 대부분의 분야에 인공지능 기술이 함께 할 예정입니다. 자주 배달시키는 음식을 선정하는 어플리케이션의 알고리즘에서 최첨단 IT 산업까지 인공지능의 활용까지, 많은 분야에서 인공지능이 함께 합니다.
