Our Brighton & Cambridge schools are set to re-open!
Dear Partner,
Following the successful re-opening of our London and Canterbury schools for face-to-face lessons, we are delighted to announce our plans for re-opening our Brighton and Cambridge schools in the coming months!
In the interest of providing the best possible learning environment for our students, we have decided to push back the re-opening of our Cambridge school to the 17th May and our Brighton school to the 21st June.
As we wait for UK government guidance on international travel in May, we are confident that our revised re-opening timeline will ensure we can meet our students’ expectations for a lively student community in the school, and a safer environment from which to study.
As the current UK restrictions ease, and shops, restaurants and museums fully reopen in May, students in Cambridge and Brighton will be able to enjoy more of the local life these great cities are renowned for as well as have greater opportunity to interact with other students.
It has been a wonderful experience welcoming our student cohort back to continue their learning journeys, and we can't wait to open our doors to more!
The roadmap for travelling to the UK
The UK government has set out a new framework for safe international travel to and from the UK. This new method will use a ‘traffic-light’ system to help clarify which rules international travellers will need to follow when travelling to the UK. This will depend on which country they are travelling from.
This new system will begin on 17th May at the earliest, but the UK government plans to announce which countries will belong to which categories in early May. Stafford House will share new information with our partners as soon as we have it.
The new measures are likely to be the same as current requirements but will apply differently to travellers depending on whether they travel from a green, amber, or red country.
For the latest official information on entering the UK please check the UK Government advice page here

After the government has confirmed how countries will be categorised, we understand this will be kept under review and will be subject to change depending on the health situation in that country and in the UK.
Our team will help to prepare partners and students to know what they need to do before travelling to the UK and what to do on arrival. We recommend that you check the official UK government advice for the latest information. We continue to assure our partners and students that Stafford House is committed to taking all reasonable steps to make sure our schools are a safe environment for students and staff:
?Adhering to all Government guidelines
?Safe-distancing rules in effect
?We Care Pledge of 14 steps undertaken for student safety
?In addition we will support all our staff and students with weekly testing for COVID-19
Studying at our Cambridge school
With our Cambridge and Brighton schools on the verge of reopening we spoke to some of our recent students about their experiences with us.
Viviane from Brazil studied at our Cambridge school last year and had a fantastic experience. Not only did she love the city and the culture she also made great strides with her English.
Impressed with her progress and the support she received from teachers and staff she said:
"In such a short period I was able to develop my English more than in my entire life! It is an excellent school, the whole staff is amazing! They are lovely, friendly, supportive - I really love all of them! "
Face to face classes continue in Calgary
Our Calgary school has been going from strength to strength, remaining open through the majority of the pandemic and continuing to offer targeted support to students hoping to get into higher education with our University Pathways Programme.
Juliana from Colombia is planning to study Filmmaking at SAIT and has been really impressed with the level of support, guidance and attention she has received from our staff:
"That is something that is really important for me because once you are here I think what you really need is that support, and I think Stafford House has it!"

Toronto moves into Grey Zone
On Monday, Toronto officially moved out of lockdown and into the Grey Zone of restrictions. With COVID currently under control, and vaccine efforts increasing across Ontario, this is a positive step towards reopening our school for face-to-face lessons. It is also good news for living in Toronto, with non-essential stores opening up again.
Grey Zone is expected to last two weeks. We hope to move to Red Zone after that, which would mean opening up for face-to-face lessons again. Rest assured the team at Stafford House Toronto is eager to see our students in person in the upcoming weeks!
University Pathways Program:
Lavinne studied on our University Pathways Program at Stafford House Toronto, helping her to secure her dream college acceptance studying Supply Chain Management! She took a 12 week Pathway Program after studying General English. She's the first to admit that it wasn't easy, but between her hard work and our dedicated teachers she pulled it off! Congratulations Lavinne!
Our University Pathways program has partnerships with 17 prestigious colleges and universities in Canada and our teams will help students who are looking for undergraduate or post-graduate programs in Canada but don't have the required English level for acceptance. The program includes:
Conditional admission and/or IELTS waiver with most partners
On program progression tracking
University presentations and fairs
Organized tours and visits of local university and college campuses
Assistance with up to 3 applications including Conditional Admission
Leo from Japan shares her experiences of taking face-to-face lessons at our Calgary school and the unexpected benefits that have arisen from studying during the pandemic! With a maximum of 6 students per class Leo has seized the advantage of having so much more of her teacher's attention, resulting in her English improving far quicker than she expected!
Travelling to Canada
It’s extremely important that all students travelling to our schools in Calgary and Toronto are aware of the requirements for international travellers to Canada.
The official government of Canada website has a very useful Flying to Canada requirements checklist which agents and students can use for the latest official information to help students prepare.
This includes:
Travelling for an essential purpose and having the correct visa
How to check for provincial restrictions
Having a full and clear quarantine plan before travel
Reserving the required 3 night stay at a government authorised hotel at your port of entry (reservation to be made pre-travel)
Requirements for COVID testing before and after arrival in Canada
Using ArriveCAN to provide travel and quarantine plans
Stafford House will provide students with a Safe Arrival and Study Guide when they make a booking for Stafford House in Canada. This guide makes clear the actions expected of our students and outlines our commitment to creating a COVID safe environment in our schools and communities.

As you all know our reservations department are taking great care to enrol your groups and make sure that their stay is as smooth and enjoyable as possible. If you have any last minute requirements or important information to pass on to us, they are always here to help you.
In recruitment we have been busy finding knowledgeable and dynamic teachers who will help your students grow in confidence and leave Stafford House with lots of new language to use.
Our activity leaders are not only specialists in sports, arts, drama and music but are also keen to share their love of speaking English.
Our experienced managers are there to ensure your group leaders are well looked after and have all the information they need. There are plenty of returning staff and familiar faces for those who have visited us before.
Our Operations team are working non-stop to organise exciting activities and excursions for your students. Our drumming, drama and samba workshops have been booked and shiny new sports equipment is ready to go! We now have even more excursion materials such as new walking tours for many destinations which will really help everyone to get the most out of their visits!
The summer is our favourite time of year and we hope that you are looking forward to it too!
