Dear Colleagues:

Thank you for your loyal partnership with the Seattle Colleges (former name Seattle Community Colleges): North Seattle College, Seattle Central College and South Seattle College.

We had an exciting year in 2013-2014 with name changes, new presidencies and building renovations. The District broke the 4,000 number (enrolled international students throughout the year).

We applauded hundreds of international students who graduated and transferred to outstanding universities this summer. You can read the graduation speech linked below of Harvard professor and Seattle Central alumna, Dr. Katie Hinde. Our top transfer institutions continue to be the University of Washington, Seattle and Seattle University. I guess once students are in Seattle, most of them so enjoy the quality of life here that it is hard to think about leaving!

A few updates:
New Transfer Admission Guarantee partners: The Seattle Colleges have added Arizona State University to our list of 17 other universities. In January, we will be adding even more partnerships which we are very excited about.

Johns Hopkins Carey Business School (JHCBS) has notified us that they will be closing down the undergraduate business program when students graduate in spring 2018.

The last cohort of Seattle Colleges students need to transfer to JHCBS by Fall 2016 with their associate degree, including the necessary prerequisites. The Seattle Colleges have transferred over 50 students into this program and it has been a wonderful partnership for us. We understand that JHU has decided to focus its Carey Business School priorities toward its graduate programs.

Who can still transfer and earn a degree from the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School?

Current students at the Seattle Colleges who have a Transfer Admission Guarantee letter for a different university but would like to change to JHCarey Business School.

Student beginning the associate degree this Fall 2014 or Winter 2015 (if the student studies hard and also enrolls in Summer 2015 to complete more quickly).

Students who are transferring in the appropriate college credits from the USA or their home country and are at College level English proficiency.

High School Completion students have a new Biology testing requirement beginning this coming Spring 2015. We are working with the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction to offer the test on our campuses or find a suitable alternative. We are encouraging students to register for our college level Biology class if they havent already taken it as part of their Associates degree in preparation for some type of biology assessment to be determined. Some students are choosing to take an AP test this spring which will also meet requirements. Note: this new requirement impacts all students in public high schools and all community colleges offering the high school completion program for domestic or international students.

South Seattle College has opened its new Center for International Education (CIE) this summer at the heart of the campus (WWB 121) and welcomes you to visit! The Center houses our International Student Services team (admissions, advising and student activities) as well as our Study Abroad Advisor and institutional support for global initiatives.

North Seattle has just opened its new Health Sciences and Student Resources Building! This building houses the latest technology with labs for both nursing and science students, one of the largest Learning Centers in the state where students can get tutoring in any subject, and a new restaurant style cafeteria and espresso lounge area for students to study and recharge!

Also, a North alumni inventor was recently invited to the White House! https://news.northseattle.edu/node/2183

Seattle Centrals recipient of the 2014 Distinguished Alumni award gave an inspirational graduation speech, which is linked below. Starting higher education at community college and then becoming a professor at Harvard by the age of 34 is quite impressive!

We are all in the business of encouraging and supporting young people to gain an education and launch successful and fulfilling careers.

Thank you again for your partnership with the Seattle Colleges.

Our District is comprised of North Seattle College, Seattle Central College and South Seattle College. You can read more about this below from our Chancellor and other news coverage. We are still community colleges, but we offer a number of Bachelors degrees now and this name change reflects our broader mission.
