메인 대학교 시스템은 오로노, 아우구스타, 파밍턴, 포트켄트, 마키아스, 프레스크아일, 서던메인에 캠퍼스를 둔 7개 대학교로 구성되어 있습니다.

메인 주립대학은 일반적으로 UMaine 이라고도 불리는 메인대학교는 엔지니어링과 경영전문대학원이 많이 알려진 대학으로

상위 5%의 연구중심 주립대입니다. 교육·인간개발대학, 공과대학, 문리과대학, 자연과학·삼림·농업대학, 우등대학과 대학원에서

90개의 학사 과정과 60개 이상의 석사 과정 그리고 30개의 박사학위를 제공합니다.

또한 대학생들은 많은 연례 행사에 참여할 수 있으며, 공학 전공 학생들은 졸업 후 취업으로 이어질 수 있는 인턴쉽을 갖게 됩니다.

메인 주립대학은 행동 신경 과학, 인지 심리학, 사회 심리학, 발달 심리학의 고급 학위뿐만 아니라 임상 심리학 과정을 결합하여 개발

또는 임상을 제공하는 기관 중 하나의 유일한 학교이며 국립 과학 재단 중 100개의 연구 대학 중 하나로 꼽힙니다.

메인주의 오로노는 미국북동쪽에 위치해 있고 캐나다 국경지역에 근접해 있는 곳입니다.

강가를 따라 위치하여 안전하고 깨끗한 환경을 가지고 있으며 미국의 전통 분위기를 느낄수

있습니다. 또한, 메인 주는 미국에서 가장 안전한 주로 선정되었고 Pine tree, Blueberry,

Lobster 등이 유명합니다. 메인주에서 3번째로 큰 도시이며, 인근의 대도시인 반오어에서

약 15분거리에 있고 국제공항을 이용하여 포트랜드(Portland)까지 자가용으로 2시간,

보스톤(Boston)까지 4시간 이내이며,뉴욕까지는 비행기로 1시간 거리에 위치하고 있어

학생들은 여가를 활용하여 다양한 미국지역을 둘러보고 문화를 접할 수 있습니다.

1862년 에이브러햄 링컨(Abraham Lincoln) 대통령이 승인한 모릴 법(Morill Act)에

기초하여 세워진 메인 주립농업·기술대학이 전신이다. 1868년 12명의 학생이 입학해

메인칼리지라는 교명으로 개교하였다. 개교 이후 1871년까지 개설된 농업, 토목공학,

기계공학 등의 강의가 생명과학대학, 이공대학, 문리대학 등으로 점차 발전하였다.

시그랜트(sea grant)란 해양과학기술 연구를 적극 지원하기 위한 연방정부,주정부,

대학,산업계 등의 파트너십을 뜻한다. 2004년에는 국립 시그랜트 대학법에 따라

독자적인 프로그램을 진행하는 시그랜트 칼리지가 되었다.

교육,인간개발대학,공과대학,문리과대학,자연과학,삼림,농업대학,

우등대학,경영대학원 등 7개의 대학 및 대학원이 있다.

회계학 예술사학,생물학,화학,지구과학,공학,국제정책학,마케팅,신문방송학,수학,

간호학,물리학,철학,사회복지학,사회학,동물학,음악교육학 등 다양한 전공 과정이

제공되고 있다.

메인주립대학교에서는 일년에 한번 씩 신입생들은 위한 행사가 있는데,신입생들은

교내 기숙사로 이사를 들어오기 전에 학생들이 신입생들은 반겨주고 그들의 멘토가 되어

학교생활에 적응할 수 있도록 도움을 주는 봉사활동을 할 수 있습니다. 또한 메인주립대학교는

200여개가 넘는 동아리가 있어 학생들이 다양하고 많은 종류의 교내활동과 교외활동을 친구들과

함께 즐길 수 있습니다.
