Auburn University는 미국 남동부 Alabama(알라바마)주의 Auburn(오번)이라는 작은 도시에 위치한 대학입니다.
이 곳은 살기 좋은 지역일뿐 아니라 Forbes 18위 선정 "Best Small Place for Business and Careers in the U.S.”
차지한 지역으로 교육 수준이 높은 도시 중 하나이기도 합니다.
오번대학은 농업, 건축, 교육, 비즈니스, 공학, 인간과학, 인문, 과학수학, 수의학, 약학, 간호,산림/야생동물학 등
15개의 단과대학으로 구성되어 있습니다. 학과별 랭킹에도 모두 상위권을 차지하고 있을 정도로 모두 우수한 학과들입니다.
알라바마(Alabama)주는 조지아 주와 미시시피 주 사이에 위치하고 있으며
최근 미국 내 가장 범죄율이 낮고 안전한 도시로 뽑히기도 한 지역입니다.
학교가 위치한 오번(Auburn)은 알라바마 주도인 몽고메리까지는 차로 1시간,
아틀란타까지는 차로 1시간 30분 소요됩니다.
이 곳은 교통이 편리하고 온난한 기후를 가진 지역으로 여름이 길고 겨울이 짧고
비교적 따뜻한 편입니다. 작지만 알찬 이 지역의 다운타운은 캠퍼스까지 10분 거리에
위치하고 있으며 오번대학교는 넓고 조경이 아름다운 캠퍼스를 가지고 있습니다.
오번주립대학교(Auburn University)는 1856년에 설립되었으며
1,875에이커의 캠퍼스에는 현재 약 20,629명의 학생이 재학중입니다.
140여개 이상의 전공 중 경영학, 공학, 교육학, 수의학, 약학 전공이
유명하며 연방정부의 지원을 받는 Land, Sea and Space Grant
(토양, 해양,과학 그리고 우주연구 보조굼 ) College로
특히 Space Grant 미국 의회가 우주 공간 관련 연구를 위해
NASA가 관할하고 있습니다.
우주비행사 4명을 배출했을뿐만 아니라 NASA에 근무하는 엔지니어를
많이 배출하였습니다. 또한, ROTC 프로그램도 운영하고 있습니다.
300여개가 넘는 동아리가 있어 학생들이 다양하고 많은 종류의
교내활동과 교외활동을 즐길 수 있습니다.

신입생들은 꼭 교내 기숙사에서 거주하지 않아도 되며, 제일 처음 기숙사를
신청하는 학생들에게 기숙사 거주권이 주어집니다.‘Urban Studio’라는
학생들이 리서치를 하고 프로젝트를 할 수 있는 공간이 주어집니다.

또한, 오번대학교는 미국 내에서 가장 처음으로
‘First wireless engineering program’을 운영하고 있습니다.
캠퍼스는 기숙사를 포함해 여러 건물이 있으며,연구도서관,
도널드 E.데이비스 수목원,아트센터,극장,TV스튜디오,원자력센터,
전자현미경실 등이 있으며 부설연구소로 우주동력연구소
(Space Power Institute)의 본부와 생물학적제어연구소,
생물학적탐지시스템연구소 등이 있습니다.
이 학교의 스포츠팀은 수영,농구,야구,골프 등 다양한 종목에서
높은 성적을 내고 있지만?특히 미식축구 팀의 오번 타이거스
(Auburn Tigers) 인기가 높습니다. 전미 미식축구 대학리그에서
팀의 수준이 높은 편입니다.
